Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed or sad I go for a walk. Sometimes I walk around my neighborhood. Sometimes I explore streets and places I’ve never been to. I just walk and walk, and walk some more. Until all that overwhelms me disappears with my footsteps. Sometimes I listen to music. Other times I listen to the sounds of life around me. Sometimes I take pictures with my camera. Other times with my mind.
Walking helps me find beauty in simple things. In myself and in the beauty around me. To feel my legs carrying the weight of my footsteps as I walk until there are no more steps to take. Walking clears the mind and let’s oxygen enter my soul.
So don’t stay in the darkness of your room when you are feeling down. Get up and go outside and breathe in the fresh air, look up at the sun or sit under the stars. This world has beauty in it. Open your mind to it and your eyes will naturally follow.

Don’t spend your days sitting out on the sidelines of life. Don’t always be the one watching life pass you by from the window of your comfort zone. Get up, and get out. The world is waiting for you to join the living. Your kindred spirits are out there longing to meet you. So open the door and walk outside. Don’t look back, just go forward.

I love taking road trips. To drive away from my life towards something filled with possibility and adventure. There is nothing like gazing at the beauty of our world from the passenger seat of a car. To look outside my window and see the loveliness of a sunny day. To roll down my window and feel the wind caress my skin as we drive and drive. To hear the laughter of friends as we head to our destination. To tell stories, eat junkfood, listen to mixtapes, and just live in this moment. In the hours and miles it takes to get there so much can happen.
